The
faces are about ideas of strength, of story, of a life lived, the attitude in
the moment. A life that is moving toward each face at a pace that is human. I
am interested in the short story that a face will tell. A narrative that is complete
as well as to be continued. The portraits are a practice in the coming to know
a person in all of their self that they allow to be seen through their
face. The imagined space in the portraits
is as imagined as the portraits themselves. They are not ‘real’ people. What I
endeavor is to make a portrait of the person I have seen or known and to place,
implicit in the image, the story they might tell about themselves. The
portraits are singular and as a group a small community of 'people'. Not unlike
the people we work with, there is a categorization of one another both by those
around and ourselves in order to manage, to understand the short story of one
another.
